One sunny morning, Mum came breezing into Duncan's room.
'Rise and shine,' she said. 'Today's the day that hat comes off.'

Duncan put his hands carefully onto his red knitted bobble hat.
'No,' said Duncan loudly, 'the hat stays on.'
'It's much too hot,' Mum said, 'to wear a woollen hat. Your head will boil.'
'The hat stays on,' Duncan said.
