Laurie Lee Prize for Writing 2025 (Over 21 category)
The Prize was open to writers currently resident in Gloucestershire, those who study and work there, and those who were born in the county. I have been shortlisted three times since the prize was created in 2022. I am absolutely thrilled that my entry, “The Quality of Light/Grief’s Journey” (prose), won the prize in the over 21 category this year. I don't know how best to describe my piece except to say it's a poetic memoir about my relationship with my father, some of the trips we took together, and my journey of grief after his death.
The 2025 judges were Katie Fforde, Jessy Lee, Norah Perkins (Laurie Lee’s literary agent), Gloucestershire writers Jamila Gavin, Adam Horovitz and Jane Bailey, and 2025 guest judge Ronnie McGrath.
